Hi,
I have gone through the same problems as most with our Calypso. I have replaced the pump with the newer one about a year or so ago. Recently, the machine has been 'eating' smaller items more than usual. After the initial pump replacement, we have generally been putting smaller items into a bag to prevent the machine sucking in stuff. However, we're human and occasionally forget.
I have purchased a new wash plate that I want to install with the hope that the machine will be less likely to suck in items. However, I have no idea how to take the machine apart enough to replace the wash plate.
I phones Sears' part department and asked for a repair manual for the Calypso, and they sent me an old generic washing machine repair manual. It does not addess the Calypso and seems not to apply to removing the cabinet.
It looks as if, on this Calypso model, the top comes off and hinges toward the back.
From what I can see, it looks like there are two clips on the front of the machine holding the top down. It appears that these clips must be released, and then the whole top of the machine will hinge back. This should be all that I need to remove to replace the wash plate.
However, I have been unable to release the clips, and I don't want to damage the enamel (any more than I've done so far).
So, any help with removing the top of the Calypso will be greatly appreciated. Or whatever I need to do to replace the wash plate.
Thanks!

Kenmore Calypso Manual Diagnostico Instructions
During the past few months my Calypso washer has given me the same fault code more than once, but not consistently. The fault code is CI. I reviewed other blog threads about this particular fault code, and have definetly determined that the cause isn't for the washer isn't being overloaded. I was hoping that I could do some sort of check to determine if the fault code is machine related, or perhaps from the old wiring in the house. Our house is almost 90 years old, and although the wiring from the part of the house that the electrical connection is hooked up to is realatively new, I am trying to determine which end to start working on the diagnosis. I am realitively handy with tools, but when it comes to the electrical componets of the house or the machines components, I am not quite as good. I have limited experience with a meter. I am hoping for some help in getting this resolved before involving a technician from Sears. Nothing wrong with the techs, don't get me wrong, but I often am shelling out a few hundred dollars to someone doing something I find out later that I can do and have done with minimal help. Hoping that someone can give me some tips.
